Pakistan Flood Kills 1000+. More rain predicted. 33 Million Affected.

Pakistan has seen widespread flooding that has left over 1,000 dead, with 120 in a single day.

Beyond the death total, the humanitarian crisis unfolding is massive. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Planning and Development, stated 30 million people had been affected, a figure that would represent about 15% of the Pakistan’s population. At least 500,000 homes have been damaged so far with the further rain predicted to continue.

In 2010 Pakistan experienced what was then called a ‘Superflood’ that affected 22,000,000 people. Some estimates put the total at 70% of those with damaged homes in 2010, did not return back to their towns. Most of the affected settled in larger cities as a result of the devastation.
